Preventing youth drug use

Merilee Fowler

Chances are, if you don’t have someone in your family struggling with drugs or alcohol, you know someone who does. Merilee Fowler has made it her life mission to save lives.

And what she’s accomplished will amaze you. She’s executive director of MATFORCE, an anti-drug organization based out of Prescott Valley that educates and raises awareness about substance abuse and helps facilitate policy changes. She’s also head of Community Counts, and founded the Substance Abuse Coalition Leaders of Arizona.

Her list of accolades includes seven national awards such as Coalition of the Year for the nation from the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA). She was honored as an Outstanding Director of the Year for the State of Arizona by the Organization of Nonprofit Executives (ONE).

But what is most impressive is the one thing she’ll never know about for sure – the number of lives and families she touches every day.
